This list was depressing to write. Fortunately the United States has improved dramatically in our race relations, but it was sad to see that we are still dealing with some of these issues. In 1971 a riot erupted due to police brutality against minorities, but 40 years later we are still dealing with that. Or in 1855 violence against immigrants peaked, yet we are still dealing with anti-immigrant rhetoric. This is why we need to teach these instances of racial violence in school, so that our kids can learn from the past instead of blindly repeating mistakes.
